About Jazz Hands Bold® Chinese fringe-flower
Jazz Hands Bold® is a new variety of Chinese fringe flower which makes a dramatic addition to any garden. This cultivar has large, evergreen leaves that come in a saturated, burgundy tone that is so dark it almost appears black. Those leaves form an interesting contrast against the plant’s showy sprays of magenta flowers that look a bit like miniature fireworks. Plants bloom in mid-spring and they are enchanting when planted singly or in mass planting arrangements.
Jazz Hands Bold® aren’t just attractive plants though. Butterflies and other pollinators will be drawn to the richly colored blooms, while deer are not interested in these plants at all. Jazz Hands Bold® are relatively low maintenance plants and they naturally form a gentle, rounded form that rarely needs pruning. They are also small enough for container growing if you have a limited gardening space.

How to grow Chinese fringe flower
Chinese fringe flowers are versatile plants that can be grown in pots, planted en masse, grown as a single specimen plant or sown thickly together to create a dramatic border around garden beds. However, you choose to grow your Jazz Hands Bold® fringe flowers, these plants are quite easy to maintain.
While they don’t necessarily need to be pruned, if you would like to shape your plant, the best time to do it is right after the flowers fade in summer. Chinese fringe flowers will also benefit from an application of a balanced fertilizer in spring and again in early summer. If possible, look for a fertilizer that is rich in iron and sulfur as these products can be particularly beneficial for fringe flowers.
Best time to plant Chinese fringe flower
Jazz Hands Bold® should be planted in either spring or fall. During these times of the year, temperatures are cooler and plants will more readily settle into your garden.
Where to plant Chinese fringe flower
Chinese fringe flowers can be grown in either part shade or full sun. Choose a location with rich and well-draining soil and make sure your plants have plenty of room to spread out. If you want to grow several Jazz Hands Bold® plants together, space your plants at least 3 to 6’ apart.
How to plant Chinese fringe flower
When you’re ready to plant Chinese fringe flower, dig a hole that is about as deep as your root ball and 2 to 3 times as wide. Place your plant in the hole and then backfill it with soil so that your plant is sown at the same depth it was growing in its nursery pot. If you want to give your new plant a head start on the growing season, consider amending the soil with a bit of nutrient rich compost.
After planting, water your Jazz Hands Bold® plant in well, ensuring that the soil is evenly moist but not soggy. Chinese fringe flowers should be watered deeply, about once or twice a week, until they are well established in your garden.
Growing Chinese fringe flower in containers
For even more options, Jazz Hands Bold® can be grown in containers! Choose a container with lots of drainage holes and a diameter that measures at least 8” wider than your plant’s root ball. Plants grown in containers will need to be watered more often than plants in garden beds, but their care is otherwise the same.
How tall do Chinese fringe flowers get?
When mature, Jazz Hands Bold® will grow about 5 to 6’ tall and wide. A perfect choice for containers or inground beds, these plants can be used as a privacy screen or they can be pruned to maintain a more compact look.
