About Let’s Dance Can Do!® Reblooming Hydrangea
If you’ve struggled to keep bigleaf hydrangeas happy, you may want to give Let’s Dance Can Do!® a try. This new hydrangea variety has the unique ability to produce flower buds all along its stems, which makes it extra cold hardy. While many other bigleaf hydrangeas only flower at the end of the stems, Let’s Dance Can Do!® is less susceptible to winter damage because it can still flower even if the ends of its stems are damaged.
Let’s Dance Can Do!® has lacecap flowers that rebloom throughout the season. That means you won’t just get flowers in early summer -- Let’s Dance Can Do!® will also bloom large clusters of showy flowers well into fall too! And if you need more reasons to love this plant, the flowers can also change color like other hydrangea species. Depending on the pH of your soil, flowers can either be a brilliant pink or bright baby blue. While both colors are positivity stunning, you can change flower color by adding sulfur for blue flowers or lime for pink blooms!

How to care for hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are easy plants to grow, but if you’re new to keeping these plants, check out the tips below to learn how to take care of hydrangeas. From the proper growing conditions to planting tips, you’ll find everything you need right here!
When to plant hydrangeas
The best time to plant hydrangeas is in early spring or early fall. Planting at this time of the year will give your plants more time to settle into your garden before the extreme heat of summer or winter’s chill arrive. You can also plant hydrangeas in summer if needed, but they will need to be watered regularly to prevent wilting.
Where to plant hydrangeas
Hydrangeas don’t like “wet feet,” so avoid planting them in any area of your garden that tends to be soggy. Instead, choose a well-draining location that receives at least some sun throughout the day. While Let’s Dance Can Do!® hydrangeas will flower more with extra light, if you live in a very hot location, you may want to plant your hydrangeas in an area that receives at least some afternoon shade.
Let’s Dance Can Do!® hydrangeas are a good size for inground gardens or container planting. Place plants in a row to delineate garden spaces or plant your hydrangeas in the back of your garden to provide a colorful backdrop to lower growing plants.
Hydrangea care in pots
With a bit of extra care, you can keep Let’s Dance Can Do!® hydrangeas in pots. Growing hydrangeas in this manner will give you more flexibility with your planting designs, as you’ll be able to move your plants around your landscape. Container grown hydrangeas also stay so compact that they can be added to balconies and brightly lit patios for extra interest too!
If you want to grow Let’s Dance Can Do!® in a container, choose a pot that is at least 16 to 24” wide. Any pot you use should have lots of drainage holes or you can drill your own holes with an electric drill. Fill up your pot with a rich, well-draining potting mix and then plant your bush to the same level it was growing at in its nursery pot. Water your plant in well and then locate it in a sunny spot.
Keep in mind that plants in containers will dry out faster, so you will need to be diligent about watering your hydrangeas if you want to grow them in pots.
How to plant a hydrangeas in the ground
While urban gardeners may want to keep their hydrangeas in containers, if you have the space for it, Let’s Dance Can Do!® is a must-have plant in large, ornamental gardens as well. To plant your hydrangea, dig a hole that is about as deep as the plant’s pot and 2 to 3 times as wide. You can mix a bit of compost into the soil before backfilling the planting hole (optional) and then water your plant in well to help it establish itself more quickly in your garden.
The care requirements for hydrangeas are the same for plants grown in inground gardens or container planters. Just provide your plants with about 1” of water per week and fertilize your hydrangea bushes in early and late spring with an organic, granular fertilizer intended for roses. Don’t fertilize these plants after July, as this may prevent your plants from entering into winter dormancy. Adding a layer of mulch around the base of your hydrangeas can reduce weed growth and help preserve soil moisture levels too.
How big do hydrangeas get
When fully mature, Let’s Dance Can Do!® hydrangeas will grow to about 3 to 4’ tall. Pruning these plants is not recommended as it can interfere with bud development, but you can clip away winter damaged stems in spring if needed.
History of Let’s Dance Can Do!® Reblooming Hydrangea
Hydrangeas are native to the Americas and Asia and hydrangea fossils that date back millions of years have been found throughout the North American continent. Today, there are 75 different species of hydrangeas; however, most of those species are found in Asia.
Hydrangea plants were first brought to Europe in 1736 by an American colonist and their popularity quickly spread throughout the continent. At times, these plants have been used as medicinals, but they are mostly kept as popular landscaping plants. Botanists have developed many different cultivars over the years using careful plant breeding practices to favor certain plant characteristics, including reblooming flowers. Let’s Dance Can Do!® is part of the Proven Winners® reblooming hydrangea series, which includes other ‘Let’s Dance’ varieties developed by Timothy D. Wood.
